Sharon Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

http://www.sharonmarealestate.com — Tour Sharon, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Sharon, Massachusetts has the appearance of a classic New England town, with its central Post Office Square marked by three tall white church spires and its tree-lined streets leafing green in summer and traced with delicate white lace in winter. But Sharon comes to life as a busy commuter town of professionals, academics, civil servants, and business people as well as local enterprises, restaurateurs, artists, and active participants in a network of civic organizations.

Residents of Sharon live mostly in single-family houses ranging from relatively modest ranches to luxury properties. Many townsfolk have second- and third-generation family roots in Sharon, but the town is also notable for its diversity and openness to newcomers. An Interfaith Clergy Council and an “Affirming Diversity” group foster cooperative understanding among several varieties of Christian and Jewish congregations, an Islamic mosque, and a Unitarian church, as well as adherents of Eastern religions, and the group sponsors an annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration.

The Sharon School Department oversees a high school, middle school, regional vocational school, and three elementary schools, including an Alternative School at East Elementary, all of which are committed to excellence in educating students.

Lake Massapoag is known for its concerts, fireworks, fishing and good swimming on Memorial Beach. From the 1800s until the 1940s, Sharon was a summer resort, drawing visitors to its many inns and hotels, where they would enjoy the clean air and the Lake.

Sharon proudly features the 2,250-acre Massachusetts Audubon Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary. The Community Center, a former resort hotel that the town acquired in 1967, offers activities, such as dance, karate, language lessons, chorus, chess, sports club, theater, community television, and a beach for swimming and fishing, for all ages. The Recreation Department and citizens’ groups sponsor a tots’ playground and several athletic leagues as well as community events like Square Jam, Fourth of July, Family Week, and First Night.

An active network of civic organizations, shared appreciation of the diversity of its population and a cherished history make Sharon a vibrant and highly livable community. Thursday, April 15th, 2010

http://www.newmilfordctrealestate.com Tour New Milford, CT neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

New Milford, Connecticut offers a gorgeous small-town landscape that could have come straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting: village shops lining Main Street, a historic town green and quaint atmosphere. Nestled along the Housatonic River in rural Western Connecticut, New Milford served as a hub for outlying communities in its early years. First incorporated in 1712, New Milford maintains its sense of tradition and small-town atmosphere with village art and craft fair days, parades, fireworks, community theatre, storytelling, caroling and bandstand concerts.

Since the 1950’s, this rural community has enjoyed significant residential and economic growth, with several high-tech firms establishing offices in town. Luckily, the community has modernized without losing its charm or its historical architecture. New Milford boasts an array of specialty shops and antique stores, gourmet restaurants, historic buildings and recreational sites.

Kingston New Hampshire (NH) Real Estate Tour

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

http://www.kingstonnhrealestate.com Tour Kingston, NH neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Kingston, New Hampshire is well-known for its 44-acre Kingston State Park and the “Y” day camps which operate there each summer. Nearby boat launching facilities on Great Pond are open to residents, there’s a town beach on Greenwood Lake, and golfers can tee up at a nine-hole golf course on the outskirts of town.

A drive into the town center of Kingston is a glance into the past. A long, broad swath of green, known as the Plains of Kingston, forms the centerpiece of this 300-year-old community. Centuries ago, the Colonial militia drilled on the Plains, and cows may even have grazed there. Today, it is the village’s distinguishing landmark and a natural gathering place for community activities like fairs, antique shows and occasional concerts in the bandstand.

Kingston’s once-bustling carriage building industry is reflected in the name “Carriage Towne,” still used by several local businesses today. A collection of four buildings in town, including the old firehouse, serve as the historic museum and display one of the carriages, along with a horse-drawn hearse.

Kingston sports an active recreation program for children and adults, much of which is driven by the efforts of volunteers. Programs include summer camps for preschool and elementary school-aged children, baseball, softball, soccer and Pop Warner Football with the neighboring town of Raymond. Other family activities include the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and an Easter egg hunt for the youngsters, both held on the Plains.

While the Plains of Kingston is lined with stately historic homes, the town’s outlying countryside is a mixture of everything from old homesteads to new subdivisions. Commercial activities are concentrated along the Plains and on Route 125, with its steady stream of traffic. The Farmers Market stops in town each week during summer to sell locally grown produce and other fresh goods, setting up on the Plains and continuing to draw people to the center of town.

Boulder Real Estate Green Building Expert Profile

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

http://zacharyepps.com/boulder-custom-builder-bob-hughes-nails-it-for-architect-jim-logan/
Boulder custom home builder Bob Hughes is at it again. Hughes construction is finishing up an incredible green-focused remodel on the personal residence of well-know local Boulder architect Jim Logan.

Check out http://www.zacharyepps.com for more important Boulder real estate info.

From the engineered lumber used for much of the framing, to 100 plus year old bricks (which are very green due to the very low ‘embodied energy’ which includes simply the transportation from Denver), Hughes has shown once again that he and his crew understand the wide variety of ways to implement green building techniques in a straight-forward and cost effective approach. This Boulder green builder has the experience and dedication to bring you honest and effective solutions to your home building or renovating project.

One thing that I love about this profile is that you get to see the home before much of the green built techniques and products are covered up. We went into the Logan residence just after insulation, doors and windows were in, to give you a rare peek at the guts of a project like this.

There’s a very important reason to be here, reporting on the project at this phase. Hughes makes it a policy to do a blower door test on all his construction projects at two points in the schedule. The first, and most important test is done before sheetrock and other finishing systems are in place. This way, the Hughes Construction crew can find any small leaks and REPAIR them before moving forward. Many other lesser builders only do the blower door test at the end, which really doesn’t provide any opportunity for improvement of the home. After all, what good is a report that you can do little about?!

Starting from the outside, we can see the exterior is enveloped in closed-cell Styrofoam insulation. This provides two benefits; first, there’s an expected insulation advantage due to the typical addition of about an R5 per inch value …
